Wakefield Council’s Youth Work Team are working in partnership with HQ Arts and The Youth Association to deliver the NCS Pathfinder Pilot in Autumn 2016. NCS Pathfinder, like the NCS main programme, is open to 16 and 17 year olds (Year 12s and equivalent) and offers young people the same opportunities for challenge, adventure, personal development and volunteering.
The key difference in the Pathfinder programme is that we have some flexibility in how we deliver the programme to meet the needs of a more diverse group of young people. As part of the NCS Pathfinder Pilot we want to involve young people who haven’t been attracted to the NCS offer so far. The Youth Work Team are piloting a sports and an environmental pathway; HQ Arts are piloting a creative pathway and The Youth Association are piloting a Challenge pathway (incorporating elements from the other three.)
NCS Pathfinder has 4 distinct phases:
A 4 day residential in Derbyshire where participants will have the opportunity to try a range of physical challenges with a creative twist (24-27 October 2016).
A 3 day series of workshops delivered at Wakefield College (28-30th October 2016).
Approximately 30 hours planning and delivering a community project, in partnership with a local charity/community organisation. Evenings and weekends in November and December. (Dates to be decided by group).
A graduation ceremony for your with invited guests on 15 December 2016 at Wakefield Town Hall.
The cost to young people is £15. Each young person that signs up will receive a free NCS Pathfinder hoodie.
There may be some bursaries available to young people who are struggling to find the £15. Make sure you give us a ring for a confidential discussion about your situation.
