Applications are now invited for the popular West Yorkshire Police Explorers Programme, in which young people between the age of 16 and 18 are able to gain an exciting insight into many different aspects of policing across the county.
The programme, which starts in January 2017, will enable successful candidates to explore the day-to-day work of police officers on the streets of West Yorkshire, as well as the work of specialist departments including Crime Scene Investigation, Safeguarding Units, Roads Policing, Crime Prevention and the National Police Air Service. They will also be given the opportunity to learn about the work of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, as well partner organisations such as the Magistrates Court and the Fire Service.
The Explorers programme runs from 7 different police stations around West Yorkshire. Applicants must be able to commit to attending their local station for two hours on Wednesday evenings. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in neighbourhood policing work and help out with police training activities.
In addition to all of the Explorers receiving individual Certificates of Achievements, 7 Explorers will be awarded a trophy for District Explorer of the Year and 1 Explorer will be crowned West Yorkshire Police Explorer of the Year!
