Be Aware! Giant Hog Weed

hogweed

There have been a number of incidents recently where children have been hospitalized with severe burns to the skin after coming in contact with the sap of Giant Hog Weed (see picture).

The plant is very distinctive as it’s very tall and can usually be found near river/canal banks.

This plant has been spotted on the banks around Woodlesford and Methley and advice is to stay away!

If you come into contact with the sap then wash the area of skin immediately and cover the skin so it isn’t exposed to sunlight.  Please then seek medical treatment.

REMEMBER – ALWAYS BE SAFE AROUND WATER
