GLO (Girls’ Learning Opportunities) Hemsworth

GLO is a 12 week programme encouraging girls and young women, aged 12 to 15, to grow in confidence and self-esteem through having a little time, each Friday evening, just to be girls, to do what they want to do and to talk about what they want to talk about. The group has chosen to undertake some health, beauty and craft activities and will be talking about friendship, feelings, peer pressure, exploitation, grooming, health risks and where to get help. It meets at the Hemsworth Partnership in Hemsworth town centre. All of the places have now been taken but GLO will be offered again in other locations during the coming year.

This opportunity is a development of the GLO project which took place to acclaim at St George’s, Lupset last year. GLO was created by Andy Simms (Public Health) and Phillippa Childs  (West Yorkshire Police). The Hemsworth project is being co-ordinated by the Young Lives Consortium alongside Hemsworth District Community Partnership and is being delivered by Isabel Pender of The Youth Work Company with Tina Dransfield, independent beautician and teacher. We are being funded by Community Safety, Think Family, Stop Smoking Campaign and Young Healthwatch.
