Young Upstarts is an exciting opportunity that supports young people aged 16-24 to set up their own small businesses. This programme is intended to work mainly with young people from West/South Yorkshire, who have some sort of business idea or ambition to work for themselves. The young people who take part in the programme will test their business idea, achieve a qualification and receive practical/financial support to set up their business.
Once the programme begins we initially work with participants for four weeks. During this time they complete a Level 2 OCN-accredited course in Self Employment and Enterprise and we help them to test their ideas financially, operationally and their market suitability. After this element finishes, those young people who are ready and whose businesses are viable are offered practical and ongoing start-up support. We will also be running schemes where young business start-ups can share facilities, making it easier for them financially. This might include premises, web/office space and logistics.
Our most recent success was Joe, aged 17, who is now running his own dog training business http://youth-association.org/top-dog-joes-starting/.
