PMA Sports – Changing Lives Through Sports

The PMA yorkshire sports academy are an alternative education program that run structured football and fitness/ gym sessions, with competitive football matches and educational workshops and accredited sports courses.

The people who will be supported through this project will be people 16+ who are currently classified as NEET, or at risk of becoming NEET and the unemployed. Some may have behavioural, emotional, social difficulties or diagnostic mental health challenges.

The project is targeted to support and engage individuals to overcome barriers that are preventing them from accessing employment, voluntary work and/or further education and engaging in mainstream sports actives and clubs. The programme will be delivered through the PMA Yorkshire Sports Academy. PMA staff, who are qualified health professionals and qualified sports coaches will engage individuals in a range of regular, structured and meaningful activities that promote and develop physical, social, educational needs.

The programme has combined activities. Participants will attend structured practical sports sessions and tailored educational accredited or unaccredited courses. The programme will also develop players skills within the PMA football clubs and support the players to become coaches, managers and captains with their own clubs and attend FA coaching courses to coach sports within their local communities and develop confidence and skills to enable their progression into mainstream sports clubs or gyms.

The academy runs the football open sessions from 11am to 1.30 on a Fridays at Wakefield Sports Club.
