The Hepworth

The Hepworth Wakefield is located on Gallery Walk, next to Thornes Lane, Wakefield, West Yorkshire.  For more information visit our website Hepworth Website

The gallery brings together work from Wakefield’s art collection, contemporary artist’s and works by Barbara Hepworth. With a café, shop, learning studios and an exciting events programme, the gallery is a place to explore art, architecture and your imagination.

The gallery runs a free Friday drop in called Make Something Amazing. Once referred to the project, young people aged 16-25 can attend between 11.00am – 4.00pm and take part in a different art activity with up to two artists. Activities include printmaking, plaster, clay, sculpture, and more.

To be referred, young people need to be/at risk being NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). We take referrals from a wide range of partners including Connexions, Youth Offending Team, Wakefield District Housing and The Prince’s Trust.

Through participating in our drop in, young people can increase their confidence, self-esteem, communication and art skills. There is no requirement to have experience of art to attend, just an interest to try something new.

We offer Bronze, Silver and Gold Arts Award which are a nationally recognized qualification and can help young people to access other provision in the area.

Refreshments and lunch are provided and we reimburse bus fares to those who are eligible.  To reimburse travel, young people will need to provide a valid bus ticket.

To refer a young person to Make Something Amazing please contact Kate Morgan, Youth Programme Assistant on Tel: 01924 247367, Mobile: 07795 812430 or Email: for a referral form.  Once this has been completed, then a date will be arranged for the young person to come for an informal induction.  It is helpful if the referrer or a parent or carer can attend this too.
