UK Youth Parliament Elections – Vote Count

The elections for the 2016 UK Youth Parliament have now closed.  The votes were counted this week.

A total of 25,984 ballot papers were circulated to 11-18 year olds in the district – 128 primary and senior schools were asked to participate.

20 senior schools and 20 primary schools voted during weeks 18 January – 29 January 2016.

A total of 9968 ballot papers were returned.

This calculates at 38.36% turnout.

Despite changes to the Youth Work Team over the last 12 months they have managed to increase the turnout from last year which was 36.82% – an increase of 1,809 individual voting papers.

The Council’s Election’s Team have confirmed that an adult local election would normally attract a 35% return.

8 candidates are standing for election from across the district – 5 in the East area / 3 in the West area.  There will be an MYP and a Deputy MYP elected for both the East and West areas of the Wakefield district.

The election results will be announced at a formal ceremony on Friday 19 February 2018 at Wakefield Town Hall.
